Maria's patience, kindness, sense of humor - her vast knowledge of yoga, all combine to make her studio a sanctuary for mind, body and spirit. Whether you have been doing yoga for years or are a complete beginner - you will leave feeling better than when you walked in.
I have had the pleasure of taking Maria's teacher training program - she does not employ a 'sit back and take notes' approach. We were all given the opportunity to teach (albeit with shaky voices and rapid heartbeats) during our very first session. We explored many aspects of yoga - It's a challenging, comprehensive and ultimately very empowering course to take. (Not to mention meeting wonderful new people and making new friends!)
She continues to be an inspiration to me and my practice. I'm thankful that I had someone with such generosity of spirit to guide me on my first tentative steps to becoming a yoga instructor.

My journey with Maria Carr and Flowyoga began in June of 2001. Starting a yoga practice was one of the best choices I have ever made for myself. Maria is an inspirational teacher and Port Perry Flowyoga Studio offers a calming and relaxing atmosphere where one can let go and just be. I am also proud to have been part of Maria's first Inspired Life Teacher Training program. Thank you so much! Namaste.

Please share my belief; the good news I received from my doctor regarding a 50% reduction in my high blood pressure meds was directly tied to watching my diet and to my yoga practice. And going forward my goal is to be off meds completely within a few months. Since all of my yoga classes are at your studio… you must share the credit with me! Many thanks.

For many years now, I have practiced yoga as a way to balance both my body and my mind. As a runner, I wanted more flexibility… and in my daily life, I was hoping to be more centered, calmer and more at peace. I have now almost completed the teacher training program at Port Perry Flowyoga Studio, and have noticed in mostly subtle ways how yoga has now become a way of life for me. I did not have any specific expectations when I started the training program. I knew that I had always been drawn to yoga and wanted to experience more of it and to learn more about the philosophy of yoga. I now know that not only is it a way to move and stretch and strengthen the body, it is also a way to practice staying in the present moment and being more mindful of who and how I want to be in this world. I notice yoga in the way I breathe, the way that I walk, my posture, the tone of my voice and my ability to listen. I see the effect of yoga on my three children when they practice their 'yoga postures', yoga breath and talk about lifting their heads up to the sky and grounding their feet to the floor. My daughter especially, who is ten, has been on this journey with me and I have noticed in her a greater sense of confidence and calmness. As an added benefit, yoga has helped me tremendously with managing Ankylosing Spondylitis, (arthritis of the spine) which I was diagnosed with at a young age. These are the gifts of yoga that came so unexpectedly. I now look forward to all that I still have to learn, to teach and sharing this knowledge and the gift of yoga with others.
